The headmistress of the Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (Presec), Legon, Ms Lady Queene Asiedu-Akrofi has allayed fears that some students have been injured and others dead after Saturday’s multiple gas explosion the occurred at Atomic.
The gas explosion site which is close to the school caused fear among many parents.
There were media reports that some of the students had been knocked down by a vehicle leading to their death.
However, in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM, Asiedu-Akrofi said none of her students were affected by the explosion.
“Nobody was bruised and hurt or broke their leg. No, we are safe. Parents relax, everything is under control. We have put something in place. The psychologists are there. They will be here to talk to them. Not even the students alone, but the community – the parents, the teachers and their families.”
She added that even though some of the students left campus during the confusion, they went straight home.
She said the school has contacted the parents of the boys who went home.
The explosion and fire struck at about 7 pm at the Mansco Gas Filling Station. This caught an adjacent petrol filling station, setting ablaze many vehicles at a nearby taxi and commercial buses terminal.
